FACTS

Goes against the Geneva Convention

These people haven't even been tried? They're just being "kept."

These guys are merely suspected of terrorist activities. Nothing has been proven with most of them.

OPINIONS

"Modern Day Muslim Concentration Camps"

"Its another example of america on it's way 2 fascism soo much for land of the brave, home of the FREE"

This seems to go exactly with American values in my opinion, fuck the other guy before he fucks you.
In my opinion it is disgusting a blatant disregard for human rights.

I can see why Guantanamo Bay exists. It is a natural human reaction to crave security, and this is supposedly what it provides- security against terrorism. It will also reinforce the hard political right in America, whose support President Bush requires. However, I believe that the isolation from society that Guantanamo benefits from is unacceptable, and certainly creates a barrier from an onlookers point of view. How can a country which promotes democracy to the point that it will invade to allow its progress have a base which removes all human rights in the name of protection? The people encarcerated in Guantanamo have no say, have no right to legal representation, a trial by their peers or to know when they will be tried. I think that George Bush has capitalised on the average American's fear and used it as an excuse to set up such a camp. This is why Britain must not agree to extended detention periods, such as the 46 and 90 day plans that are currently being considered by the government. Although nowhere near as extreme as Guantanamo, these policies still remove civil liberties, and this is not an act that we should be following.
